List of All Roulette Bets

If you are going to play any amount of roulette, you'll have to know how at least one of these bets works. As you gain more experience you'll likely pick them all up fairly quickly. Even though the inside bets might have higher payouts, they are much less likely to win on any given spin. In general, the outside bets are the best choices for beginners.

Bet Explanations

Below you can learn everything you need to know about each of the roulette bets. We'll discuss how they are performed and go over all of the statistics, odds, and payouts that apply.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are, quite simply, found in the 'inside' of the table. These are all of the individual numbers, as well as the street bets which are located in the top row of the table above. The six different types of inside bets are explained below.

Straight Up Bets

The straight up bet is the first inside bet, and one of the simplest wagers you can make in the game of roulette. These are bets on what the number of the very next spin will be. Each of these bets only wins about 2.63% of the time, but when you win with a straight up bet, you can take advantage of the game's highest payout; 35:1.

Most players either bet multiple straight up bets at a time, or combine them with some of the outside bets. Just like most of the roulette bets, you are playing against a 5.26% house edge on American wheels, and a 2.63% edge on European wheels.

Split Bets

The split bet is pretty much a double straight up bet. You just have to put your chip stack on the layout so that it lies between the two numbers you are interested it. If either number is shown, then you win this bet.

Split bets payout 17:1 (half as much as a straight up bet), but they win 5.26% of the time (twice as much as a straight up bet). These two differences balance out, and leave the split bet with the standard overall house edge of 5.26%.

Street Bets

Taking these inside bets to the next level, the street bet allows you to bet on a row of three numbers. Put your chips on the far line of a row, and you'll have marked this bet. (see the top row of our sample layout)

Now we start to see just a little bit of action as this kind of bet wins 7.89% of the time. With an 11:1 payout it maintains the standard 5.26% edge.

Corner Bets

Corner bets follow the same pattern as the bets we've already talked about; now we're betting on four numbers at a time. To make a corner bet, put your chip stack at the intersection (or corner) where these four numbers meet on the layout.

With a 10.53 win percentage and an 8:1 payout, we are still looking at a 5.26% house edge on an American wheel, and a 2.63% edge on a single-zero, European wheel.

Double Street Bets

The double street is just what its name implies: a bet on two 'streets' or rows. You place these chips on the far side, directly between the two numbers at the end of their respective streets.

By including six numbers under a single bet (almost 1/6 of the wheel), this bet wins about 15.70% of the time. With a 5:1 payout, it too has a 5.26% house edge.

Basket Bets

The basket bet is a wager on 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. Since it relies on the 00 pocket, it can only be used with double-zero, American roulette wheels. It will win 13.66% of the time and pays out 6:1. With a house edge of 7.89%, it sticks out like a sore thumb as the single worst bet in the game!

Outside Roulette Bets

Unlike inside bets, these outside bets cover large portions of the wheel. This is where you will find the even money (1:1) bets, and those that payout 2:1. Just like most of the inside bets though, every outside bet has a 5.26% house edge with an American wheel and a 2.63% house edge with a European wheel.

Even or Odd Bets

These bets are extremely simple to make and understand. Just look for the spaces on the layout labeled 'even' and 'odd'. Put your chip stack on whichever space you'd like, sit back, and relax. This bet has the standard 5.26% house edge.

Because nearly half of the spaces are even, and nearly half of them are odd (0, and 00 are the edge), one of these spaces is going to win almost every time. Whichever space you choose will have a 47.37% chance of winning, but only pays out 1:1.

Red or Black Bets

This bet is just like the even/odd bet, but you are betting on the collor of the pocket. Since all pockets, other than the 0 and 00, are either red or black, one of these spaces will win most of the time.

Each bet has a 47.37% win percentage and they also payout 1:1. These are some of the most basic roulette bets, and perfect for beginners. Below, you can see what color each numbered pocket is.

Red 1 3 5 7 9 12 14 16 18 19 21 23 25 27 30 32 34 36
Black 2 4 6 8 10 11 13 15 17 20 22 24 26 28 29 31 33 35

High 18 Bets

If you bet on high 18, you are wagering that the following spin will result in a pocket numbered from 19-36. Like all even money bets (1:1 payout), other than the 0 pockets, one of these spaces will win as the result of most spins.

With it's standard 5.26% house advantage and a 47.37% win percentage, this is another great bet for the new players to online roulette.

Low 18 Bets

This bet is the converse of the high 18 bet. It is a bet that wins when the resulting pocket is numbered from 1-18. Because this covers nearly half of the wheel-head, it will win 47.37% and it pays out 1:1.

As with most roulette bets, the Low 18 bets have a 5.26% house advantage when playing with an American wheel, and only a 2.63% house edge when playing with a European wheel.

Column Bets

The column bet is like the street bet, but it covers 12 numbers in a column instead of 3 in a row. This is nearly 1/3 of the wheel and pays out 2:1. Since it should win 31.58% of the time, it has the standard 5.26% house edge (or 2.63% when playing on a European wheel). Below, you can see which column each number falls under.

Column 1 1 4 7 10 13 16 19 22 25 28 31 34
Column 2 2 5 8 11 14 17 20 23 26 29 32 35
Column 3 3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 27 30 33 36

Dozens Bets

The dozens bet, as the name implies, lets you bet on 12 numbers at a time. Instead of betting on numbers that lie in the same column though, you are betting on a dozen numbers that are in sequential order. These numbers are broken up into three separate dozens:

First Dozen 1-12
Second Dozen 13-24
Third Dozen 25-36

Just like column bets, these bets payout 2:1, have a 31.58% win percentage, and a 5.26% house edge on American wheels (2.63% on European wheels).
